Course objective The aim of this course is to provide the Turkish teacher candidates with theoretical information about teaching Turkish to bilingual Turkish children, to internalize this subject and gain experience through in-class applications.
Course description “Turkish migration abroad, effects and consequences of migration; educational status of Turkish children abroad; legal basis of mother tongue education abroad and Turkish and Turkish culture courses abroad; bilingualism, multilingualism and its types; theories, methods and techniques in teaching Turkish to bilingual Turkish children; Turkish and Turkish culture curriculum; material design for Turkish and Turkish culture lessons” (YÖK, Turkish Language Teaching Undergraduate Program)

Course contents
1 Ice breaking activities for meeting, meeting, giving information about the course, sharing syllabus, determining the rules of the class
2 Migration, migration theories, factors causing migration, acculturation and adaptation
3 Turkish migration abroad, effects and consequences of migration
4 Bilingualism, multilingualism, multiculturalism and policies towards them
5 Problems realted with the bilingualism and its solutions
6 The problems, needs and current educational situation of bilingual Turkish children living abroad
7 Midterm exam
8 Contents of Turkish education programs prepared for bilingual Turkish children living abroad
9 Turkish teaching process for bilingual Turkish children
10 Language skills in teaching Turkish to bilingual Turkish children
11 Methods and techniques used in teaching Turkish to bilingual Turkish children

2 A Turkish language teacher candidate describes the basic concepts of bilingualism and multiculturalism.

4 A Turkish language teacher candidate gains knowledge about Turkish language teaching programs prepared for bilingual Turkish children living abroad and their contents.
5 A Turkish language teacher candidate knows how to apply methods and techniques used in teaching Turkish to bilingual Turkish children.
