Learning outcomes of the course unit
Have general knowledge about gestational physiology, endocrinology and biochemistry.
Have general knowledge about fetal development and metabolism.
Have intense knowledge about the effects of maternal sub-optimal nutrient intake on fetal metabolism.
Identify the biochemical, molecular and cellular mechanisms of these effects between maternal nutrient intake and fetal metabolism.
Examine the relationship between maternal nutritional status / nutrient intake on fetus metabolism and disease risk in later life of the fetus.
Learn the possible preventive strategies in order to prevent and reduce the risk of adulthood diseases through maternal nutrition.
Develop knowledge and skills about optimal nutrition during pre-gestation, gestation and lactation.
