Course objective The audiovisual and theoretical features of the music that have a meaning in the different regions of the world depending on the geography and culture they live in are put forth and the students are able to accumulate this knowledge.
Course description Theoretical and practical analysis of the music concepts in different parts of the world.

Course contents
1 Objective, content and outcomes of the course will be explained and references will be introduced.
2 The emergence, scope and use of the concept of world music will be discussed with some key concepts.
3 Eastern Asia: Chinese and Korean music cultures with their historical roots.
4 Eastern Asia: Japan music culture, Japan theatre and court music traditions: Kabuki and Gagaku.
5 Oceania: Indonesian Islands: Bali and Java Gamelan music culture.
6 Oceania: Australia and New Zeland native music cultures: Maori tribe and Australia Aborgins.
7 Midterm exam.
8 Middle East music traditions: North African Berbers: Music traditions of Morocco, Tunusia, Algeria, Libya and Egypt.
9 Jewish music traditions.
10 South Asia: Music of India, Hindustani (North) and Carnatic (South) music cultures.
11 South Asia: Pakistani music traditions and Pakistan Sufi music: Qawwali.
12 An overview to Central and South America music cultures.
13 A brief overview.
