Mode of delivery Each subject will be taught using computer programs. Subject Teaching and discussion will be the methods used in teaching this course. Moreover, the students' knowledge of evolution will be consolidated by giving them homework about different subjects.
Course objective The aims of this course are to appreciate the scope of historical and modern evolutionary biology; to become familiar with the professional literature in evolutionary biology; to hear research reports presented by evolutionary biologists.
Course description History and philosophy of evolutionary biology (development of evolutionary biology, evolution in modern biology, evolution outside of biology, Evolution theories); Origin of life; Evidences for evolution; Basic principles of evolutionary biology (unity and diversity of life, fundamental definitions and concepts in evolution (e.g., population thinking, fitness, adaptation, selection, genetic drift, founder effect, species, clade, phylogeny, hierarchy, homology, etc.)); Mutations; variations; Population genetics and evolution; Speciation and speciation mechanisms; Human evolution
