Dersin Tanımı
|
The course focuses on the use of literature in language teaching, with particular emphasis on the analysis of selected poems and plays from British and American literature, as well as other works originally written in English. The distinctive features of these two literary genres—poetry and drama—are examined in comparison with other forms of literature. Activities are designed to highlight the thematic richness and linguistic features of literary texts.
Furthermore, the use of poetry and drama as tools for teaching cultural elements is explored. This includes a comparative and contrastive analysis of the source and target languages and cultures, focusing on material and symbolic cultural products; proverbs and idioms; culturally embedded formulaic expressions; social structures, roles, and relationships; traditions, customs, and rituals; belief systems, values, prohibitions, and taboos; culture-specific superstitions; political, historical, and economic backgrounds; and cultural institutions. The exploration also addresses figurative and connotative meanings, as well as the role of humor in literary texts.
