Course objective To teach basic principles and concepts of horticulture, fruit crops, vegetable crops, production of horticultural crops in Turkey and world and economics of horticultural sector, ecological factors effecting horticultural crops.
Course description This course covers introduction of horticultural area, cultivation practices in horticultural crops, production and harvest of grape, fruits, vegetables and ornamental plants.

Course contents
1 Definition and context of horticulture. Fruit production in Turkey and world, important fruit production areas of Turkey.
2 Classification of fruit crops.
3 Dormancy, flower bud formation and blooming in fruit trees.
4 Pollination, fertilization, fruit set and alternate fruit bearing in fruit species.
5 Viticulture in Turkey and world.
6 Propagation methods in fruit trees and grape vine.
7 Establishment of orchard and pruning.
8 Turkish viticulture, commercial classification of grape cultivars and their nutritive values.
9 Olericulture in Turkey and world and economic importance of vegetable in Turkey. İmportance of vegetables in diet and health.
10 Classification of vegetables.
11 Effective factors in choosing of vegetable management location.S Types of vegetable managements and establishment of vegetable managements.
12 Multiplication methods in vegetables crops.
13 Seed production in vegetables and pre-applications in vegetables seeds and transplant production. S
14 Cultivation practices in vegetable production (soil preparation, seed sowing, seedling planting, pruning, irrigation, fertilization, weed control and contribution to pollination
15 Status and economics of ornamental plants in Turkey and World. Classification of ornamental plants and production methods.
