Course objective To understand the functioning of the basic concepts of the Political Unit in the political system, to analyze the results they produce.
Course description It deals with the basic concepts within the scope and dimensions of Political Science.

Course contents
1- Basic concepts to be covered in the course and preliminary information about the content of the course.
2- What is politics? Etymological connotations of the concepts of politics. Different meanings of politics from the perspective of conflict and reconciliation.
3- The scope of political science, the techniques it uses and its relationship with other disciplines
4- The understanding of politics in ancient and medieval times. Aristotle, Plato, Cicero, St Augustine, Thomas Agunias
5- Politics in the modern period and the 19th century. Machiavelli, Montesquieu, A.comte, K.marx
6- What is the state, the elements of the state, the source of the state, the personality of the state
7- Political power, authority, sovereignty concepts and their relations
8- Social Stratification and Political Power
9- Elite theories
10- What is political participation, what are its dimensions?
11- What is public opinion, its formation, its power to influence political power
12- Political parties. General information, functions, typology
13- Pressure groups
